Wellbutrin Side Effects

Wellbutrin (generally known as bupropion) is a medication used to treat depression and recently has been used by many people to help them stop smoking. Nicotine use is widely recognized as contributing to countless premature deaths. Therefore, a smoking cessation aid such as Wellbutrin may be beneficial to those who take it and successfully kick the habit. Bupropion is also used as an antidepressant, which is often prescribed in addition to, or instead of, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). However, people need to be aware of Wellbutrin side effects.

Unfortunately, this drug is also associated with increased rates of congenital heart defects in children whose mothers used it during pregnancy. In 2009, the FDA also issued a health advisory warning that some patients taking bupropion had reported having thoughts about suicide or had attempted suicide. For more information, see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22515134.

To discuss your concerns regarding your use of bupropion during pregnancy or otherwise, talk to an attorney with extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical litigation and precedents set in previous lawsuits.
