Callahan v. Cardinal Glennon Hospital – 16 Million Dollar Settlement

This is a medical negligence case that involved a young man who contracted polio after receiving a vaccine. Shortly after receiving the vaccine he received medical treatment for an infection that compromised his immune system allowing the attenuated vaccine virus to infect him. The child contracted polio and was paralyzed for life. The jury returned a verdict in our favor in excess of 16 million dollars. The case was appealed by the defendants and upheld by the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.
